DC-3(C-47)係美國道格拉斯(Douglas)公司研發製造，使用R-1830-92型往復式發動機兩具，最大馬力1200匹，最大速度202浬／時，實用昇限22150呎，可搭載乘客27人或兵員20人，第二次世界大戰期間,DC-3進行了多次改良而最後演變成C-47運輸機作為軍用運輸用途,對於盟軍的戰略貢獻頗多,由於性能優良，維護容易，為世界各國軍隊所廣泛使用。1944年即加入中國空軍中服役，擔任抗戰、復員、戡亂時期之運兵、空投、空運等作戰任務，國民政府遷台後改擔任專機及空軍官校空運組飛行訓練之用，為台灣空軍空中運輸寫出重要史頁，貢獻良多。
